How do I connect?
Getting connected in a large parish can be a challenge at first. At St. Stephen's Church, there are numerous ways to plug in, from small groups to volunteer or outreach opportunities to choirs to classes. You are welcome to take part in just about anything this community offers. Here are some suggestions:
- sign up for an Inquirers Class
- come to the Farmers Market on Saturday morning
- subscribe to St. Stephen's weekly email, the eSpirit; there is no cost, no obligation, and we will not share your email address with any outside group
- ask for help in finding an Emmaus Group
- join a "guild"--the altar guild, flower guild, the needlepoint guild, the prayer shawl knitters, the icon guild (all guilds are open to both men and women)
- join a choir (some require auditions, others do not)
- volunteer at the Farmers Market, in the kitchen preparing our Sunday Community Supper, or in our food pantry ministry for those in need
- contact a member of the clergy about the possibility of serving as a reader or chalice bearer, a healing prayer minister, or a lay visitor to the Richmond City Jail
- attend a retreat or workshop, or take part in any of the other offerings you'll see on these pages.
- Volunteer to serve in one of our ministries.
Do as much or as little as you like. There are no "requirements" for being a part of this community of faith. If you wish to be baptized or confirmed, or to transfer your membership from another Episcopal parish, we'd love for you to do so. But it's not required. Everything we do, everything we offer, is open to all, regardless of whether you are a "member" of this church. If you're here, you belong.
